Barkepers Golden Book

a few month ago, I bought another collection of Bartender Books. Most of them have a ex-libris stamp from the private collection of  "Jan Longone" which is: Janice Bluestein Longone. Look at the great Culinary Archive at the William L. Clements Library.

I am going to sell most of them. Some of them I will sell on ebay.

Currently it is 15 books on ebay, and I will upload more and more. So have a look at the ebay channel

Next to the big names and hunted down rare classic book (which end often, better to say: hopefully, in a few hundred and more dollars) it will be many not so popular books. And I will try to show a few here at jrgmyr.com. Because most of them, are worth a look. In every of them is so many to discover.

  • Burkes Complete Cocktails and Tastybite I fall in love with. Good recipes and great Advices … and he is telling about the famous Berlin Bartenders, and how they use ice (!)
  • Barkeeper Golden Book, written in german, english and france is one of this great "unknown" but awesome books too. Great texts about Speakeasy, Ice, Shaker, and the profession of a bartender
  • the third Edition of Jerry Thomas (1887) is a classic, Frank Meier's Ritz Bar Book a must have and WHEN ITS COCKTAIL TIME IN CUBA one of the books, which reading I enjoy most.

Gestern Abend - " 50% Bonded Rye Nacht"  in Guten Löwen. Spät nach Mitternacht. Bartender kommen aus den Bars der Stadt für einen Night Cup. Stefan ruft an : "Mach gerade Feierabend und komme gleich rüber. Schon Beefeater 24 probiert?" "Nein" "Ok. bring ich mit..." Gesagt, getan. Kurze Zeit später: Aperitife Rye Cocktail "Red Hook". Dann Beefeater 24. Stefan ist schon seit Wochen voll auf begeistert. Ich kann nach kurzer Probe seine Begeisterung nicht ganz teilen. Kein schlechtes Produkt - aber in meinen Augen auch nicht mehr. Es fehlt irgend etwas, was diesen Gin einzigartig macht.  Wie schön, das Geschmack unterschiedlich ist. Ich schenke Ihm Bloom Gin ein, hatte mir Matthias Eikerling vor einigen Tagen zugeschickt. Nicht Stefans Geschmack. Verhaltene Begeisterung.  "Nö ... kann ich nicht viel mit anfangen". A discussion about woman in the bar industry

Last night I was part of a discussion on facebook. It took place at Christine Williams profil - find a link here:  https://www.facebook.com/christine.wil…/…/10221226072987813… I became quite emotional because the tone used in this discussion was very disrespectful. People called Charles Schumann "Prick" "Ashole" "Trash" and more. I felt to join in, as this made me angry. Charles Schumann is a friend of mine. I respected him for years. He did and does so many things for our industry. And supported many young, old, male, female bartenders in many ways like only a few of us did in the past. And he still continues to do so. In his daily actions and work Charles is always supporting women. But regarding the discussion, I like to set a few things straight: Charles sentence/quote „women should not work behind a bar beyond 3 pm" in that film and quotes given in interviews in this regards are misogynist. Why your Non-Alcoholic Spirit Brand will maybe fail...

I have to say:  in general, you are right!  People live more and more healthy. Awesome! They focus on exercising, work out a good balance, good and healthy food, taking care of themselves. It is big. Especially in the „younger“ generations. And yes. People drink less and less alcohol. One reason is for health. And then we also have the „hustler“. They wanna be fit the next morning, Conquering the world again. Both are good points. So, yes: The world will need more non-alcoholic beverages. Here you are right and I agree 100% So, you might also be right, to transform „non-alcoholic “ drinks into the Bar wold. You think that some of these people just love the imagination of „feeling“ like drinking alcohol is great. Also that they do not get „the look“ and „the question“ from the people they spend the time over the drink. So you copy the rituals and the habits of enjoying alcohol in a sophisticated way into your product. And this is why you believe in Non-Alcoholic Spirits. Te
