The Strawberry Basil Smash

I visited Sweden last week and was invited by BACARDI to give Workshops on Club de Cantineros and Le Lions way of classic Bartending. Also I attend an opening of a new great Bar & Restaurant called Cantineros. This Project was consulted by an Company called:

(I will later write about them here and what they do is in a short way "mind-blowing")

I very rare meet a consultancy in our trade, who did so many high level projects they showed me in my four Stockholm Night. Nick Sitbon, one of the heads of Liquid Managment, and Richard Chille Man from BACARDI invited me to many spots in Stockholm and I was more then impressed, by what I saw.

They also showed me the new renovated NOBIS Hotel . WOW . 200 Mio € spend and out of this World. The Bar is also consulted by Liquid Managment (Robert Radovic)

He gave me a warm welcome in his bar and told me, that he owes me a drink. Inspired by Le Lion's "Gin Basil Smash" he created in the beginning of 2011 the Strawberry Basil Smash. Which, Hotel numbers don't lie, has sold more then 10.000 times in 2011 ... Wohoo.

I tried it, and it could convert me, Gin Lover No.1 (maybe No.2), into a Vodka Lover! You must try this.

Nick told me, this was the most bespoke drink on swedish Online Blogs and I think, there are some parallels. Robert Radovic created the drink - here is his recipe:

STRAWBERRY BASIL SMASH by Robert Radovic, NOBIS Hotel Stockholm
  • 5 cl kanon Vodka (Swedish Organic Vodka 
  • 1,5 cl Freshly squeezed lemon Juice 
  • 2 cl Agave syrup 
  • Pinch of Basil 
  • 2 strawberries 
  • Muddle and build with Crushed ice
As you can see, it is served in a Jar Glass !
